The most common Rad Power Bikes issues we see across RadRunner, RadWagon, RadRover, RadCity, and RadMission - and how to fix each one.
Rad Power Bikes are some of the most-serviced eBikes in North County San Diego. Here are the issues that repeat across the RadRunner, RadWagon, RadRover, RadCity, RadMission, and RadExpand lineup.
The number one call. Rad stock tires are decent but the tubes are thin. Fix: upgrade to a thicker tube or a Slime-filled tube and add a tire liner. Cuts flat frequency by more than half.
Rad hydraulic brakes with stock resin pads glaze fast, especially for heavier riders and cargo loads. Swap to sintered pads and rebed. Doubles pad life on RadWagons and RadRunners hauling kids.
Rad drivetrains do not get enough lube from most owners. Once a chain hits 0.5% stretch, it wrecks the cassette. Lube every 100 miles, check stretch every 500.
Usually the charger, not the battery. Rad chargers have a mixed reputation. Test with a multimeter on the DC output. Should read 54.6V on a healthy 48V charger.
Torque arm was reinstalled wrong after a flat repair or motor swap. If you feel a click under acceleration, stop and check. A chewed-up dropout is a $200 fix.
Rad E-codes almost always point to a specific system. E-03 is speed sensor. E-04 is throttle. E-06 is motor. Almost every one is a loose connector, not a dead part.
Speed sensor magnet on the rear wheel wandered out of alignment. Realign to sit 2-3mm from the sensor.
Deck bolts loosen from cargo vibration. Torque check every few months.
