Fixing a Super 73 flat is not like fixing a regular bike flat. Here is why - and the step by step for doing it right without damaging the motor.
A Super 73 flat is one of the most-called-in repairs we do. The tires are wider, the tubes are bigger, and the rear wheel houses the motor - so shortcuts break things. Here is how to do it right.
Loosen the axle nuts, drop the wheel out, break the bead with the levers, swap the tube, seat the tire evenly, torque axle to 35 Nm. Inflate to 20 psi for street or 15 psi for beach.
1. Shift to lowest gear if you have gears. 2. Disconnect the motor cable at the dropout. Never pull on the cable itself. 3. Note torque arm orientation - it must go back the same way. 4. Loosen both 15mm axle nuts, remove the wheel. 5. Break bead, swap tube, reseat tire making sure the bead is fully seated all the way around. 6. Reinstall wheel with torque arm properly seated, torque axle nuts to 35 Nm. 7. Reconnect motor cable, tuck cable under the frame protector. 8. Inflate and spin the wheel to check for rub.
